Heavenly Coast

Blessed with mile upon mile of coastline, Devon is a beach lover’s dream and many of Devon's hotels and restaurants are just a stone's throw from the waters edge. Designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1960, much of our coastline is protected and features gems such as Burgh Island, the glamorous setting for Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot mystery ‘Evil Under the Sun’.

Many of our beaches are lifeguarded during the busy summer months and with crystal clear waters, swathes of our coastline is frequently listed in the Marine Conservation Society’s 'Good Beach Guide' thanks to its excellent quality.

With a mixture of sand, shingle or pebbles you can choose a stretch of beach that suits your needs. Whether you prefer to stretch out, relax and get stuck into a good book, explore rock pools and coastal paths or enjoy the adrenaline rush of a watersport, Devon gives you plenty of choice. Our reputation for watersports is international and includes a broad array of activities with surfing, canoeing, kayaking, wind surfing, wake boarding, coasteering, snorkelling and scuba diving all available to try.
