Recently revamped and restored, the Moorland Garden Hotel enjoys a beautiful location between the untamed splendour of Dartmoor National Park and the magnificent natural harbour of Plymouth.

The property was purchased in July 2011 by business entrepreneurs Sonia and Brian Meaden (parents of Dragon’s Den TV star Deborah Meaden). An extensive refurbishment programme to restore the hotel to its former glory has taken place, with the new owners having invested heavily in renovating all areas of the hotel and tranquil gardens.

Leading West Country interior designer, Nadine Judd, has introduced the ‘Garden’ of the hotel’s name into the bedroom makeovers. Elsewhere in the hotel, the Crystal Room features 12 glittering chandeliers and floor-to-ceiling glass windows that look out onto the gardens, with doors that flow out to the lawn.

The Wildflower Restaurant, recently awarded an AA rosette for culinary excellence also overlooks the gardens, with glass doors leading out to an alfresco dining terrace with sun umbrellas for when the weather is fine. The Head Chef creates a menu of classic British favourites using the best ingredients, locally sourced. The hotel has just been commended in the Taste of Devon category in the Devon Tourism Awards.

Located in the heart of the building, the Dartmoor Bar and Lounge is two-tiered with a quiet fireside area for relaxing and reading, whilst chairs, tables and sofas welcome walkers and residents to enjoy local ales and hearty bar food.

Guests can avail themselves of drying facilities, access to guided walks, OS maps and staff with detailed local knowledge. This is prime walking country, whether stepping out onto Dartmoor or exploring the nearby Tamar Valley, dogs are welcome throughout the hotel.

The hotel celebrated its 80th birthday of opening in May 2015.
