UnPacked Family Theatre Festival

1- 6 August, Exeter

Exeter’s own PaddleBoat Theatre Company is returning to the city with another line-up of exciting events in Exeter city centre designed to inspire and entertain children. Hosted in venues throughout the city from The Boat Shed Theatre, Exeter Phoenix, the RAMM, Exeter Library and in Rougemont Gardens events include: The Pixies’ Scarf, The Ugly Duckling and Other Tales, A Play in a Week, The Fisher-Knight’s Tale and Rustle.

Cricklepit Mill – Wild Bee Family Fun Day

3 August, Exeter

Make a beeline for the Devon Wildlife Trust’s Cricklepit Mill on the edge of the city to experience a day of discovery in their garden. Have fun taking part in some exciting activities, get busy with craft and learn lots about the humble bee. The Cricklepit Mill garden provides an urban retreat for plenty of wildlife and everything from otters, kingfishers, egrets and hedgehogs – not to mention bees! – have been spotted here. Keep your eyes peeled!

Powderham Faerie Folk

6 – 11 August, Powderham on the outskirts of Exeter

An amazing discovery has been made at Powderham Castle! Faerie folk have been spotted living in the beautiful grounds and have been kind enough to agree to tell their stories – for a short time only! Join the faerie folk for story-telling sessions and explore the historic castle and grounds with their breath-taking views of the Exe Estuary. The Country Store and its Orangery Restaurant are a great place to refuel after your meet and greet with these mythical creatures.

Crealy Adventure Park & Resort

Head to this family attraction on the outskirts of Exeter for a fun filled day and special events taking place throughout the summer holidays. From the High Dive Show – an extraordinary stunt display all the way from the U.S.A. to Pop in the Park taking place each Sunday full of almost familiar faces with tribute acts from Adele, Ollie Murs and Katy Perry and two brand new rides – the Junior Driving School and the Jolly Roger.

Living Coasts Zoo & Aquarium

Take an epic journey around the world’s spectacular coasts and learn all about the fantastic animals and fish that live along them. This conservation and education charity offers an enthralling day out for children (and adults!) of all ages with a packed schedule of feeding times, ‘meet the keepers’ and talks.

The Beach!

No holiday or day trip to Devon would be complete without a day at the seaside. Devon is blessed with two coastlines each offering a variety of beaches and seaside to explore and enjoy.

From North Devon with its long stretches of sandy beach and waves worthy of an exhilarating belly-board to East Devon with its soaring red cliffs backed by beautiful green countryside and traditional seaside vibe and South Devon’s coastline dotted with rock pools and crystalline waters just crying out to be explored: there is a Devon beach for everyone.

The Moor

If staying on dry ground is more your thing, family friendly activities abound on a trip to Dartmoor. This huge expanse of National Park with wild open countryside and river valleys is full of myths and legends and a truly unique environment to discover. As well as trekking, walking, cycling, horse riding, camping, canoeing and climbing – phew! – visitors can also try letterboxing and geocaching.
