Exeter is the hometown of Michael Caines restaurant, and Abode hotels. Exeter is something of a spiritual home, for all our beliefs about hospitality, food and wine were first developed and put into place here. Central to this is Michael's philosophy that good food is inclusive not exclusive and must be accessible at all levels, from the Michael Caines Restaurant and Champagne and Cocktail Bar, to the more informal Café Bar, lively Well House Tavern, and MC Boutique for gourmet takeaway.

This Exeter Restaurant has established a reputation locally for serving the best 2- or 3-course lunch in the city. The short lunch menu changes daily or weekly, depending on what is available and in season, and gives a real taste of our stylish and high quality cuisine at an excellent value price. Moreover, we respect the busy demands on your time and guarantee to serve you lunch — two courses with coffee should you wish — within one hour. Should time not be an issue, then you are naturally invited to linger over your meal as long as you like.

Michael Caines Restaurant is located on Exeter's beautiful Cathedral Yard opposite the city's magnificent 11th century Gothic cathedral. Formerly The Royal Clarence - the first Abode hotel opened following an extensive and comprehensive refurbishment in 2005. The hotel's stunning bedrooms combine quality and tradition with striking contemporary modern design that exceeds the needs and requirements of today's visitor.

About Michael…..
Michael Caines is one of Britain's most acclaimed chefs. In 2000, he founded Michael Caines Restaurants and took over food and beverage operations at The Royal Clarence, Exeter, Britain's first hotel. Today Michael continues being an operational Partner and Director of ABode, the group of boutique hotels that he co-founded with his partner Andrew Brownsword. At ABode Hotels, Michael is in charge of all the food and beverage operations within a fast-growing number of Abode venues throughout the United Kingdom.

Starter

• Pan fried frogs legs with spring onion risotto and wasabi froth
• Salad of red mullet with ratatouille, aubergine purée and a spiced tomato vinaigrette

Main Course

• Poached turbot with wild garlic, asparagus, morels, and feves served with a gewürztraminer sauce
• Local 'Ark' chicken stuffed with a tarragon mousse served with a white wine sauce

Desserts

• Bitter chocolate tart with Guanaja ganache and orange suzette, chocolate tuile and orange confit sorbet
• Raspberry soufflé with a raspberry coulis and vanilla ice cream
