A well travelled and rosy cheeked rugby aficionado running one of Devon’s most exciting freehouses – Irresistible!

Expect good local brews on tap – Otter Ale, Butcombe Bitter and Doom Bar - and a crystal clear philosophy to serve only the best of Devon’s produce. Both restaurant and pub, the Jack oozes honesty, panache and that rare four letter word – CARE. Hungry diners travel from far and wide for a very warm welcome and interior free of modern day standardisation. Seasonality comes through in every dish. Ruby Red beef, Berkshire pigs from Talaton and Pole Dorset lamb from Whimple. All get the star treatment.

The team deliberately eschews the term ‘Gastropub’ and has been careful not to make the Jack purely a dining venue or to exclude families. Instead pub grub classics are given a delicious kick up the backside and the powerhouse kitchen flex their creative muscles across modern, innovative menus. Look to the chalkboard for daily specials from moorland game to plump sustainable fish like pollack and hand-dived scallops from Lyme Bay.

Small artisan producers such as John Rowswell, Mary Quicke and Carolyn Bellinger are chosen as they guarantee integrity, freshness and a friendly face at the back door. Menus are innovative with just a touch of alchemy. Pinned down to a description they’re Modern British. All are full of verve and punchy flavours with twists not always apparent until the flavours explode on your tongue.

Value for money is always at the forefront of our minds. The Totally Devon menu will stay fixed at £25 for three courses for the remainder of this year and it’s also worth remembering that all our mains come complete with vegetables and potatoes. If you feel the price of our meals reflects the true value of local food then we look forward to welcoming you soon. If you don’t then you’ll be spoiled for choice on the high street!

The Jack in the Green is a superb wedding reception venue and a perfect place to celebrate a memorable occasion such as a Birthday or Special Anniversary. We pride ourselves on our consistently high standards and attention to detail tailored to your own individual requirements.

There are a selection of rooms available:

The 'Otter Room' is fully air conditioned and dedicated to holding special events and celebrations. This room can accommodate up to 80 people and seating can be arranged in a variety of ways dependent upon the type of event you have planned. A dance floor can also be laid in this room and we are able to recommend selected bands or discos to complete your evening’s entertainment. For smaller celebrations there is the 'Clyst Room' which can accommodate 20-28 people and is well suited to dinner parties. The 'Exe Room' can seat between 14-20 people.

We are able to recommend selected services to complement your special occasion. These include: music & entertainers, specialist cake decorators, florists, bridal wear/suit hire companies, photographers and specialist transport companies. We would be pleased to meet and discuss any of these additional services you may require to complete your perfect day.

Just minutes from Exeter Airport and 3 miles east on the old A30 from Junction 29 off the M5, there is plenty of free parking and a new al fresco courtyard area.

The Jack in the Green offers a range of dedicated meeting facilities and conference rooms that can be arranged according to your requirements:-

THE CLYST
The Clyst is light and airy and can comfortably seat between 12-20 people. It can be equipped with a projector and screen, flip chart and VCR if required. This room is ideal for smaller business meetings and presentations and links directly to the restaurant area, providing an easy transition from your management meeting to lunch or dinner.

THE OTTER
The Otter is more suited to the larger business meeting or event and can comfortably seat 20-50 people. The room is fully air conditioned and equipped with a professional sound system, suitable for public speaking, presentations or playing music. It also has direct access to the bar and restaurant area. All the additional business facilities you would expect are available such as projector and screen, flip chart, VCR.

THE EXE
The Exe is the smallest of our three Exeter meeting rooms and is situated at the far end of the restaurant area making it ideal for those who would like a less formal meeting or use of a syndicate room.

We offer very competitive daily delegate rates that include room hire, refreshments and lunch. Meeting rooms are equipped with flip chart, OHP and VCR if required. SVGA projector hire can be arranged if required at cost. Wireless Internet access is now available in all meeting rooms.
