The Bedford Hotel in Tavistock, and the Two Bridges Hotel in the heart of Dartmoor, were each awarded Gold at Food Drink Devon’s first ever “virtual” awards ceremony.
The Food Drink Devon awards, covering 6 categories of food and drink producers and hospitality providers, this year celebrated businesses which have worked hard to adapt and trade amidst the unprecedented circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic. The awards were judged against a range of criteria, with an emphasis on quality, sustainability and provenance, the use of fresh local in-season produce, exceptional customer service and supporting local communities and businesses.
Speaking after the “virtual” presentation of this year’s awards, Barbara King, chair of Food Drink Devon, commented: “Each year we’re increasingly impressed with the quality of entries to our awards. This year was no exception. Even in the face of unprecedented challenges for our industry, Devon’s inspiring food and drink producers and hospitality and retail establishments have excelled. We are delighted that, in spite of restrictions, we have still been able to recognise these achievements and champion these outstanding businesses in what would have been the tenth anniversary year for our awards.”
The Two Bridges Hotel and The Bedford Hotel operate under the same local ownership, with each hotel offering individually styled rooms, extensive dining options and a range of facilities for weddings, events and conferences. Dartmoor Brewery, home of the famous Jail Ale, is also part of the group.
